Testimonials
I had a lot of lower back pain and leg pain. Every 2-3 months I would be unable to stand erect, walk comfortably or sit for longer than ten minutes. I was no longer able to lead a normal life. No skiing, hiking, biking, walking etc. I was missing time at work. A friend recommended Dr. Whittlesey. I had never been to a chiropractor before. I am very pleased with my treatment and Dr. Whittlesey’s wonderful attitude has my attitude about chiropractic. I regret not coming here 3 years ago.

I specialize in low force adjustments that don't require popping or twisting.  With my adjustments, usually there is no 'CRACK”.  I use the Impulse instrument for most adjustments.  This instrument moves 100 times faster than the human hand can move.  The faster the adjustment the better the adjustment.  I have used almost every chiropractic adjusting made and I have found that this one provides the best results.

Kinesiology / Muscle Response Testing

In my office, I test the strength of all major muscles of the body. If there are strength imbalances, I correct them by massaging the reflex points or stimulating the nerve roots of the spine with a cold laser. If the nerves going to the muscles are shut off or the nerve centers aren't functioning properly, the electricity going to the muscles is turned off and the muscle becomes weaker.

Functional Medicine   Twenty-First Century Health Care

Functional Medicine is a growing field of modern health care. It offers a giant step forward in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of many of society’s chronic illnesses. Doctors practicing functional medicine are able to identify the real causes of many health conditions by using the results of scientifically documented tests. These are not your standard medical tests but go to the next level in investigating the biochemical and metabolic glitches likely to cause a specific disease process. Based on the results of these tests, physicians are then able to develop personalized patient specific treatment protocols designed to reverse, stop or prevent the disease and its related symptoms.

Cold Laser Therapy

The laser I use in my office produces a very bright red coherent beam of light. This light acts as a bio-activator. The bio-activation causes the cells to function at a higher capacity than before. So it can used to help a variety of problems.  Mainly, I use it for "turning on" nerves that have been shut off or only partially transmitting nerve impulses. For example, if a muscle is weak because it is not receiving the proper amount of nerve impulses, I can stimulate the nerve so it can send the proper flow of electricity.  It can also be used to restore normal function to parts of the brain and cranial nerves.

Muscle Relaxation Techniques

When muscles have been overused or tightened for a long period of time due to an injury, stress or bad posture, the muscles lose their normal programing. They are like a computer that doesn't respond normally. When this occurs, the muscles will not contract normally. Instead they contract when they are supposed to relax. They will spasm with the slightest provocation. Muscles also can become shortened.  After the muscles have been spasmed or tightened for a long time, scar tissue will form in the muscle.

Percussion Fascial Release

Percussion is a very effective method of releasing the tension or restriction of the fascia in the body. This technique was developed by Dr. Robert Fulford, an osteopathic doctor. The fascia is the layer or membrane of connective tissue that covers all the muscles, organs, brain and spinal cord. Tension in the fascia can be caused by physical and emotional trauma or bad posture.

Craniosacral Therapy

The human skull is made up of 24 bones. These bones are connected to the dura mater, which is a thick membrane (fascia) that covers the brain and the spinal cord and contains the cerebral spinal fluid. The dura mater is also connected to the sacrum (tailbone). Under normal circumstances the bones of the skull, the dura and the sacrum move rhythmically about 10- 14 times per minute.

Graston Technique

This technique uses Stainless steel instruments to break down scar tissue and adhesions in the involved tendons, ligaments or muscle. Then stretching and strengthening exercises are used to realign the tissues. This is very effective with chronic problems that just won't go away.

Allergy and Sensitivity Elimination

To assist the body in its healing process, it is usually necessary to rid the body of allergies and sensitivities. Most people don't even realize that they are allergic or sensitive. I use a technique called Allergy and Sensitivity Elimination and Re-programing Technique (A.S.E.R.T.) developed by Dr. John Brimhall. This is a modification and improvement on the Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique (N.A.E.T.).

Exercise Training

I have been studying exercise for 20 years. I have learned and developed stretching and strengthening exercises for almost every part of the body. Corrective exercise is essential to stabilize the spine or any part of the body. If some type of exercise isn't performed, the results will not be complete. The patient must participate in his recovery.

Electrical Stimulation/Electro-Acupuncture

I use interferential stimulation and micro-electrical neuro-stimulation (MENS). These are used mostly with injuries and acute problems. Interferential stimulation increases blood flow, calms the nerves and increases blood flow. Micro-electrical neuro-stimulation helps the affected tissues heal quicker and normalize nerve function.

Auriculotherapy

The Chinese and the French medical doctor Paul Nogier discovered over 200 acupuncture points on the ears that correspond to different parts of the body and body functions. In my office, I use a microcurrent device called the Microstim 400 to locate active acupuncture points associated with my patient’s conditions.

Chiropractic

Modern Chiropractic began in 1895 and has gone through many changes through the years.  Science and research has brought many developments and improvements.  But the basic theories and concepts have held up to the test of time.  The brain and the nervous system control everything in the body.  The spinal cord comes down from the brain and through the spine and out to the body.   When a vertebra becomes stuck or misaligned (subluxation), it irritates the nerve supply and causes whatever is at the end of the nerve to malfunction.  Pain is usually the first sign of malfunction that brings the patient to a Chiropractor’s office. However, subluxations cause more than just pain, they cause stress in the body and a loss of vitality.  Pain is the tip of the iceberg.
