Testimonials
I was in chronic pain and was having frequent migraines when I first saw Dr. Whittlesey. I have been to many specialists including, neurologists and orthopedic surgeons without relief or a solution. I heard about him from a friend who swore by him. Right away I was impressed by Dr. Whittlesey's friendly manner and professionalism. He seemed to know just what was causing my pain. I felt better after my very first visit. After a few sessions my pain and headaches were completely gone. It has been a few years since my first appointment. Occasionally when I start to feel out of balance I return for treatment. Dr. Whittlesey truly gave me my life back. "I highly recommend him to everyone who is in pain and is seeking relief. Suzzane P. Dr. Whittlesey has significantly decreased my chronic pain problems and also acute pain problems through his various modalities. He has also increased my understanding of my body and taught me methods to prevent problems. I also rely on him to reset my nervous system when I start to notice any balance problem. I highly recommend him for achieving optimum health.

Brain Degeneration Print E-mail

The brain controls everything in the body.  Our quality of life is determined by the health of our brain. In fact our body will sacrifice other parts of our body to save the brain. And the nerve cells in our brain are the only cells in our body that are never replaced --- They never reproduce.  You are born with all the nerve cells that you will ever get.  So therefore preserving the health of our brain is of vital importance. Several things influence the health of the brain:

  • Lack of stimulation
  • Deficiency of nutrients
  • Dysglycemia- Blood sugar problems
  • Hormone Imbalances
  • Inflammation
  • Methylation imbalances
  • Microglia Activation – immune activation of the cells between the nerves
  • Brain Ischemia- decreased blood supplied to the brain

Any of these things can cause atrophy or death of nerve cells.  Proper oxygen and glucose (blood sugar) supply are vital to the brain.  This seminar focused mainly microglia activation, brain ischemia, energy linked neuro-degeneration and brain degeneration from gluten.  Most of the degeneration in the brain is in the microglial cells. These are cells in between the nerve cells.  Half of the weight of the brain is made up of microglia cells.  They protect and hold together the nerve cells.  There is little antioxidant activity in these cells so they are very susceptible to break down and this causes degeneration of the nerve cells.  They are easily effected by immune reactions from microbes and food allergies (especially gluten or wheat).  Poor brain blood circulation leads to a drop in oxygen and this causes death of these cells.  Abnormal blood sugar imbalances and hormone fluctuations lead to inflammation in the microglia. Blood sugar problems and toxic chemical (everything in our daily lives) exposure slow down the energy production in these cells leading to degeneration.  Dr Kharrazian has designed four new products specifically aimed at solving these problems.  I now carry these in my office. One of the best things you can you can do for yourself is to maintain proper blood sugar levels--- neither too or too low. Eat a breakfast containing protein every day.  Also 3 or more meals a day each containing protein, fat and fiber. This is important because spikes in blood sugar and insulin is very damaging to nerve cells and microglial cells. Also managing inflammation is essential.  You can do this by identifying food allergies and correcting dysbiosis (removing bad bugs and using probiotics) and eating an anti-inflammatory diet.  In addition, continue to learn NEW things.  Get a variety of exercise regularly and vary the type of exercise. Finally adjustments help maintain proper stimulation, balance and tone of the nervous system.  Save your brain and save your life!
